Erika is a mother of five whose experience navigating maternity leave and returning to work shaped her commitment to building better, evidence-based support for employees through major life transitions. She went on to build and grow an ed-tech and wellbeing startup for children, became Sky News’ resident parenting expert, and, following an MBA, completed a research fellowship at King’s College London exploring how data-driven approaches can help prevent pre- and postnatal depression. Through this work, she met Dr. Helen Yannakoudakis.
Helen, an Associate Professor in AI, is a recognised leader in the field, with publications at leading venues including NeurIPS and ACL. Her research is driven by two complementary goals: advancing core machine-learning methodologies and addressing the challenges of real-world implementation. Helen specialises in Machine Learning for Natural Language Processing (NLP), with expertise in applying NLP to understand human emotion and detect early indicators of mental-health risk. Together, Erika and Helen brought their complementary domain backgrounds together to build an evidence-based approach to supporting employees through key life transitions—and Kinhub was born.
